BACKEND LEARNING PATH

Backend and API Development Roadmap

Choose one of the server-side language and framework paths in the catalog, then study persistence and optional service communication using the matching existing course material.

Who this path is for

Learners interested in server-side applications, web frameworks, APIs, and persistence.

Before you begin

Start with one programming language. The language courses below are alternatives, not a combined curriculum.

Learning outcomes

  • Choose a supported language and server-side path
  • Work through routes, requests, and application structure
  • Connect a selected application to persistence

STEP BY STEP

Your learning sequence

Core stages are ordered. Branches are labeled as recommendations, choices, or optional follow-ons.

  1. Choose one path

    Choose one language foundation

Select a language course that matches your intended server-side path. The curricula begin with language fundamentals and are not prerequisites for one another.

    • PythonCourseCourse page is public; selected sections require login.
    • C#CourseCourse page is public; selected sections require login.
    • JAVA SECourseCourse page is public; selected sections require login.
    • GOCourseCourse page is public; selected sections require login.
    • PHPCourseCourse page is public; selected sections require login.
    • VB.NETCourseCourse page is public; selected sections require login.
  2. Recommended background

    Command-line background

The Linux course covers files, processes, networking, package management, and SSH. It is useful background but not a prerequisite for every server framework.

  3. Choose one path

Choose a server-side framework or runtime

The available outlines cover Node servers and Express, Django views/forms/models, FastAPI request and SQLAlchemy basics, Go routing/templates/database work, Java servlets/JSP, ASP.NET Core, Razor Pages, and PHP request handling. Choose the branch matching your language.

  4. Core sequence

    Model and persist application data

Begin with relational design and normalization, then select a database and the integration material matching the chosen language. MongoDB is an alternative document database path.

  5. Optional branch

    Explore service communication

After a basic server application, choose networking, real-time SignalR, or gRPC topics. The course outlines describe different protocols and use cases.

    • NetworkingCourseCourse page is public; selected sections require login.
    • SignalRCourseCourse page is public; selected sections require login.
    • gRPCCourseCourse page is public; selected sections require login.
  6. Optional branch

Practice and inspect a running site

Use coding practice and the site-speed tool as supplementary activities; course pages remain the destination for course assessments and gated sections.
