LANGUAGES LEARNING PATH

C# and .NET Developer Roadmap

Use the C# language course as a base, then select application, data-access, desktop, or runtime branches from the actual .NET-related curricula.

Who this path is for

Learners building a C# foundation or exploring the .NET ecosystem.

Before you begin

No prior C# knowledge is required for the C# language course. Framework courses are optional branches.

Learning outcomes

  • Study C# language and object-oriented fundamentals
  • Choose an application and persistence branch
  • Explore optional .NET ecosystem and runtime topics

STEP BY STEP

Your learning sequence

Core stages are ordered. Branches are labeled as recommendations, choices, or optional follow-ons.

  1. Core sequence

    C# language foundation

The C# outline progresses from language basics through classes, OOP, exceptions, delegates, interfaces, and pattern matching.

    • C#CourseCourse page is public; selected sections require login.
  2. Optional branch

    Data structures and design

The algorithms course covers data structures; Design Patterns covers creational, behavioral, structural patterns, and SOLID. These build on programming familiarity but are not framework prerequisites.

    Supplementary practice and tools

  3. Choose one path

Choose a web or service branch

Razor Pages and Blazor cover web applications; SignalR and gRPC cover service communication. Pick the subject you need rather than completing all branches.

    • Razor PagesCourseCourse page is public; selected sections require login.
    • BlazorCourseCourse page is public; selected sections require login.
    • SignalRCourseCourse page is public; selected sections require login.
    • gRPCCourseCourse page is public; selected sections require login.
    • NetworkingCourseCourse page is public; selected sections require login.
  4. Choose one path

    Choose data access material

ADO.NET, EF Core, and MongoDB courses cover distinct connection, relational mapping, and document-database approaches. They are alternatives that can be selected for an application.

  5. Optional branch

    Explore .NET application services

C# Essentials covers dependency injection, validation, worker services, and source generators; Libraries covers benchmarking, text recognition, and a bot client.

  6. Choose one path

    Choose a desktop UI framework

Windows Forms and GTK have separate UI curricula. Take one matching the kind of interface you want to build.

  7. Optional branch

Explore other .NET languages or runtime internals

F# and VB.NET are separate language curricula, not steps after C#. ASP.NET on VB.NET is a separate server branch. MSIL covers the intermediate language and assemblies.

    • F#CourseCourse page is public; selected sections require login.
    • VB.NETCourseCourse page is public; selected sections require login.
    • ASP.NET on VB.NETCourseCourse page is public; selected sections require login.
    • MSILCourseCourse page is public; selected sections require login.
  8. Optional branch

    Explore mobile development

Xamarin.Forms covers cross-platform UI, platform-specific code, data binding, and navigation; it is a platform branch, not a required C# stage.
